The Gila and the Salt

lyrics

I'm alright, and how about you? I scarcely remember your face. All but for the ties that kept us one, I'd second guess your name.

Held my breath so long I passed out in your open arms.

Every flooded fertile crescent wonders when it's gonna dry up. It's a parlor game, divining parched earth til it's gone to dust. I rode out on the Brill line about til I was halfway home. A sliver of light from inside shone on the overgrown palms.

Held my tongue so quick as you passed right by the windowsill.
Curses echo in the cracked spire where we sweated our dreams out.

Deep, deep time. The past couldn't know.
Deep, deep time. The past couldn't know.
Deep, deep time. The past couldn't know.

How long was it wasted on me when your patience broke? You're blooming in derelict corners where I blush in repose.

A nod, unknown to all those now:
hardly gone, just yet to come about.
